Since it’s been cold and rainy for the last 24 hours and won’t be stopping until noon tomorrow, my body needs extra warmth. Covering up with warm clothes, blankets and thick socks isn’t even cutting it! I decided to concoct a delicious warming tea that will surely warm me from the inside out – which is exactly what I need. Turmeric aids inflammation and is soothing for the digestive system. This tonic is beneficial for anyone with joint pain, digestive problems (colitis, crohns) or any other inflammation in the body.  Here’s my homemade recipe for turmeric tonic.

Half the juice of 1 lemon

½ inch of fresh turmeric root (it looks like fresh ginger root)

1 tablespoon raw organic honey

Boil water for tea. Squeeze the lemon in your teacup, scoop out the honey and grate the turmeric root. Pour the water into your cup and let it steep for 5 minutes. Drink up and enjoy!

P.S. If you don’t have fresh turmeric on hand but you’d like a warming tonic, then try grating fresh ginger instead.
