Deceiving Food Labels

Deceiving Food Labels

I have to share my frustration about deceiving food labels. I was recently at my favorite health food store in NYC,Westerly Market, and came across a bottled green smoothie that looked pretty appetizing. I needed a snack and thought it was the perfect thing. The front label showed that the only ingredients were vegetables so I bit my lip at the $11 + price tag and threw it in my Read more »

There’s nothing like fresh tea from your own garden – even if it’s a small garden like ours. 2 weeks ago I planted herbs! I’ve always wanted to do this and now it’s happening. Why does it make sense to grow your own? Well, firstly you’ll save $$. How often do you need cilantro for a dish and are forced to buy a huge bunch that you know you’ll never finish? Now you have the opportunity to pick the exact amount that you need without letting it go to waste!

I hate throwing food away and that’s what I’m forced to do when I buy these large bunches. Now all I have to do is work on keeping my plants alive! I’m a rookie when it comes to gardening so if you have tips for me then leave them in the comment section!

Tea recipe from my garden:

Basil

Peppermint

Lemon Balm

Chamomile

Steep in hot water and let chill for iced tea or drink warm. Enjoy for a fresh, calming, soothing tea.

Last night I had the honor of attending a cooking class at the Natural Gourmet Institute. It was a gluten free and vegan baking class – right up my alley!! The space was beautiful and it was SO much fun.

If you take one of their classes that are targeted for certain people with allergies, you are bound to meet people who have similar interests like you. Yes, that was the case here and I met some really nice women who all spoke my same health conscious language – it was fantastic!

It’s not everyday you spend 4+ hours talking about different flour combinations, types of sugar and so on… It was a really great experience.

I recommend you search through their public class catalog and get yourself to a class. It seems as though most people who attend their classes are quite health conscious, ready to learn something new and really excited to actually be there!

Give yourself a gift of taking a class there, you definitely won’t be disappointed. It really is a special place; Annemarie Colbin must be SO happy- her dream is definitely a success.
