I Can See the Light

Dec 13

Last week in a yoga class that I took the teacher spoke about the winter solstice that is quickly approaching on December 21st. She went on to explain that it will be the shortest amount of daylight on that day;  from then on the days will begin to get longer and longer.

Because of this darkness, us humans are prone to hibernation. FINALLY! A reason to explain my laziness!! WOOHOO! Have you been feeling this way too? Maybe it’s just the cold of the winter creeping into my bones that’s making me tired all the time!

I swear: I’m eating properly, getting enough vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Being a health counselor I’m scratching my head wondering what in the world is it?

You see, if there is something wrong with me and I can’t figure out a cure to make myself feel better then it only makes me feel worse! I’m the type of person that if something goes wrong, I crack open the books and start my researching.

With this laziness I haven’t even wanted to crack open the books! SO unlike me.

So I’m thinking and wondering if there are others out there who are feeling this same sense of plain old L.A.Z.I.N.E.S.S.

Hopefully according to my yoga teacher we are all going to come out of this hibernation soon enough to experience the longer days – which I know we all love and cherish (I know I do!)

I am crossing my fingers and toes that this lazy period is plain old temporary.

Please write back with your experiences. I appreciate any feedback!

Looking forward to seeing the light!

YOU CAN LOOK AT THIS TWO DIFFERENT WAYS. 1/ YOU CAN RE EDUCATE THE MUSCLES TO RE EDUCATE THE BRAIN TO GIVE A STRONG COMMAND TO YOUR MUSCLES TO DO SOMETHING………… OR YOU CAN JUST ENJOY THE LAZYNESS FOR A WHILE AND TELL YOURSELF NOT TO ATTACH ANY DANGER TO THIS SITUATION AND LISTEN TO YOUR BODY LANGUAGE. LOVE DR. NANCE

  • Ruth says: Hi My Lovely You,

In reading your blog ( which I love by the way) I was remembering the days when I led a clean and simple food life, not that I don’t do this today but I have modified my diet to meet my lifestyle today. It was different 40 years ago. That being said, I have experimented and experienced many different food combinations and lifestyles, from being totally vegan, macrobiotic and then vegetarian. I felt really good, my skin was good and all in all, things seemed great. One thing though was happening that I was not aware of and that was that I was not listening to my body as much as I thought I was. I craved things, whether it was eggs, meat or whatever else that was not included in my diet at the time. I didn’t see it at the time but I was too rigid for my own good. I became, tired, sluggish and just not in sync with my “healthy” way of eating. I did not connect my food with what was going on with me but realized when I started to eat more things that I craved then I began to feel better and better. It felt like I opened a door and there was a beautiful garden inside with all the possibilities that I didn’t let myself see.
So I guess what I’m responding to in your blog is that it may not JUST be the winter hibernation (which is true) but something that you might not be giving yourself in terms of YOUR cravings, whether it’s food or something else in life that lies dormant. Something to consider….I don’t see you as a lazy person AT ALL.
So as someone who is A VERY BIG FAN OF YOURS, I want to congratulate you on all your amazing efforts. You have taught me quite a bit about food and nutrition. (And I thought I knew it all 🙂 )
    Your loving Mom

    • admin says: Hi – I’m so happy that you were able to listen to your body. This is very important when eating a healthy diet. If you’re not getting enough nutrients, your body will tell you by sending signals. Whether you’re tired, irritable, having cravings – our bodies have an incredible messaging center all we have to do is listen. Personally I have been working on listening to my body for a while now and am pretty in synch with it – of course I miss some signals here and there, but I’d say that I’m quite tuned in. Thanks for the comment! <3

  • Christine says: Hello Shira,

I love the candidness & presence of your blog!

I hear you on the short days… there does tend to be that urge to hibernate and get cozy under the blankets. It seems to me that there is a subtle balance to strike between being gentle with ourselves, recognizing that our bodies do shift during the colder months, and staying present with how to best to support our bodies by eating well, getting some refreshing exercise, and being peaceful and centered with what is true for us. Are we being lazy, or are we slowing down to better reflect on our world? Hmmm…

Keep it going! This is good, thought provoking stuff!

    Best,
    Christine
